Recieved life membership in 1982.
Charles “Chas” Smith managed an impressive 225 games over his 15 year run with the Ainslie first grade team. Between 1967 and 1981 he was was captain in 1977, vice captain in 78 and 79. Charles technically retired in 1979 but was tempted into playing just one more game in 1981 for the reserve league at the club.
In 1985 Charles would take on the role of director for the ACTAFL and in 2012 would be inducted into the AFL Canberra Hall of Fame.
Charles and his brothers Alan and Martin were all long time and dedicated players, each reaching over 200 games played over their times playing at the club, Ainslie was lucky to have this trio at the club for as long as we did.
