Someone with a deep love of the game, Don Ross started off his senior career in 1949. He was always eager to play and in 1952 he scored the best of season amount of goals with a total of 46 that year. Don Ross would continue playing all the way up to 1962, serving as captain and vice captain intermittently throughout. He ended his run in 1962 with a total of 208 senior games played, being one of the first 12 players/umpires to participate in at least 200 Canberra based games, and the first Ainslie player to do so.

Don ross also served briefly as both a committee member and as an assistant secretary across his time at Ainslie.
