Recieved life membership in 2003.
In the final Issue of the 1983 Inside Ainslie Newsletter, the author wrote of “One of the most respected – and popular – players in the League John Miller or ‘J.M.'”.
John Miller started playing with Ainslie in 1979 and after 107 First Grade games retired once in 1985 but played one final game in 1986, and retired for good upon realising he was done playing the game. Being the 1980 Mulrooney medallist and a consistent best and fairest winner, John felt he had gotten all he needed out of the game and wanted to focus on the myriad of other commitments present in his life that year including managing at Cockington Green, sports administration studies, and building his house.
Though he did remain connected to Ainslie and would help out where needed and when time allowed. This included joining the committee in 1987, becoming senior vice president in 1999 and club president in 2001-2002.
