Received life membership in 2003.
John Miller started playing with Ainslie in 1979 and forged a very sucessful career in his time and was held in high esteem by many around the club. He would represent First Grade 107 times before calling time in 1985, forging a career with an incredible tally of five Premierships in just six years of playing – 1979, 80, 82, 83 and 84. John was a standout player for many seasons and was notably awarded the the 1980 ACT Mulrooney Medallist for Best and Fairest in the league.
John famously came out retirement for one final game in 1986, and retired for good upon realising he was inevitably done playing the game. John felt he had gotten all he needed out of the game and wanted to focus on the myriad of other commitments present in his life that year including managing at Cockington Green, sports administration studies, and building his house.
Though he did remain connected to Ainslie and would help out where needed and when time allowed. This included joining the committee in 1987, becoming senior vice president in 1999 and club president in 2001-2002. John was revered as by many at Ainslie and beyond as “One of the most respected – and popular – players in the League”.
