Received Life Membership in 2021

Lee has enjoyed a playing, volunteer and administrative association with the Ainslie Football Club spanning more than 55 years. His Ainslie journey began in 1969 as an Under 7 player, progressing through every junior grade before finishing with the Under 19s in 1981.

In 1982, Lee transitioned into coaching, leading Ainslie’s Under 12s for three seasons. His coaching tenure culminated in an Under 14 premiership in 1984, while helping develop a talented group of young players who would go on to become Ainslie champions, including Gerard Zochling, Jeff Mohrwinkel, Robert McTaggart, Mark Schmidt and Sean Woodland.

As a player, Lee was a member of Ainslie’s 1983 Monaro Premiership team, famously known as “Ando’s Commandos”, and was the Runner with the First Grade side in both 1987 and 1988. Off the field, he served on the Junior Board from 1982 to 1984 and the Senior Football Board from 1990 to 1993, demonstrating an early commitment to the governance and development of the club.

In 1994, Lee stepped back from club commitments as he and his wife, Bente, focused on raising their three sons—Hugh (1994), Lochie (1996) and Ollie (2002). As his boys began their own Ainslie football journeys in the early 2000s, Lee returned as a volunteer, coordinating the Auskick program on Sunday mornings and contributing as a coach, team manager and umpire across their junior careers. All three sons continued the family tradition by progressing through the club’s pathway to play senior football for Ainslie.

Lee rejoined the Ainslie Football Club Board in 2011 and was appointed Senior Vice President in 2013 before becoming President in 2017. During his seven-year presidency, he provided strong leadership through a period of significant growth and change, stepping down in 2023 after more than five decades of dedicated service to the club.

Professionally, Lee brings more than 40 years of experience in the Australian public sector, holding a range of management and senior executive roles specialising in procurement and finance. Combined with extensive experience in the hospitality industry, he has applied his broad leadership, governance and commercial expertise to support the strategic direction and long-term success of the Ainslie Football Club.

In recognition of his outstanding and sustained contribution over more than half a century, Lee was awarded Life Membership of the Ainslie Football Club in 2021.
