Lionel James Jnr started to play for Ainslie roughly around the same time his father finished coaching the teams, passing the torch from father to son. Lionel would play for Ainslie between 1951 and 1956 playing in 49 First Grade games, receiving the Best and Fairest award in 1952. In 1954 he would join the Committee, a position he held until 1968, alongside this he would serve as Honorary Secretary at the Social Club between 1959 and 1968. Was the Social Club Vice President from 1969-71 and Social Club President from 1972-82. After stepping down as the Social Club President he would earn his Life Membership for the Social club in 1982.
