We have unfortunately lost another great Ainslie man in Billy Blomfield. Bill passed away peacefully in Milton at the age of 84.
Billy played 62 1st grade games for the club – debuted in 1957 as a 16 year old. He played in the 1959 Premiership team at 18 years of age (this is the photo below). At the time he may have been our youngest premiership player in the club’s history and held that record we believe for some time.
He was also very well known for his great sausage making and a keen golfer at Yowani for many years before moving down the coast to Mollymook to retire and moved in next door to his great mate Harold Pennay – former AFSC board member for many years and life member of the AFSC. They shared many great games of golf and were always hospitable to any Ainslie people that were ever in the area – a beer could have been served at anytime of they day when you arrived on either Harold’s of Billy’s deck !!
Our thoughts go out to Bill’s wife Lynn and their extended family
