The first Grade mens team at Ainslie were looking for the “three-peat” going into 2018, having won the last two grand finals they had their eyes set on a hat trick. The start of season saw the team hit a slump with back to back losses in the first three rounds.

But this was a team that just needed to warm up, bouncing back in rounds 4 and 5 against Tuggeranong and Gungahlin, round 6 saw the boys up against a Belconnen who was currently undefeated, a title Ainslie would take from them and carry the rest of the season.

Reaching finals without another loss Ainslie had clawed their way up the ladder.

The Second Semi Final was the rematch between Ainslie and Belconnen, the magpies went into this game with the unfortunate loss of their star captain/coach James Bennet to injury. The magpies played their hearts out, but could never reach over Ainslie’s lead. The Tri-Colours ended the game with a 59 point lead, solidifying their spot in Grand Finals and their prize of a “three-peat” finally within reach.

The first quarter saw Ainslie player Nick Salter score three goals to take the early lead on the scoreboard, ending the first quarter with a 30 point lead over Eastlake.

Quarter two was Eastlakes time in the spotlight, whilst not able to reach a hold of Ainslie’s lead, they slowed our momentum down and clambered back a 3 goal difference in score.

Quarter three had Ainslie and Eastlake both scoring key goals, but by this point Ainslie had widened their lead back to 28 points over Eastlake.

The Final Quarter was as close as Eastlake would get, starting the quarter off with a rapid fire pair of goals that brought the gap back to a 14 point difference. Young  player Ben Jamieson responded with two goals of his own, with Nick Salter landed one more to take the lead goal kicker score before the siren went.

A win of 34 points at Finals, an undefeated streak of 14 games, and the legendary “three-peat” Finals. Ainslie First Grades had one heck of a season to be proud of.
