Reece’s highly decorated football career at Ainslie consisted of some incredible achievements:
- 123 senior games over his nine years at the club
- Accumulated Four Premierships under his belt in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997
- Alex Jesaulenko Medallist in 1997 for Best and Fairest in the Grand Final
- Best and Fairest Awards in the seasons of 1994, 1996, 1997 and 2002 – the most for an individual player in Ainslie’s decorated history
A prolific goal scorer and midfielder, Reece primarily played as a ruck-rover who possessed elite skills and an uncanny ability to beat tacklers. Reece was a big game player for Ainslie, standing tall in important moments which was highlighted by his eight goals across the four grand finals he played for Ainslie.
After playing in Four successive Premiership-Winning seasons with Ainslie, Reece left the club on a high at the end of 1997, alongside coach Ross Smith to play in the Bendigo league. However, it wouldn’t be long until Reece returned to Ainslie in 2001 for a brief stint, as the club looked to recruit experienced players in a relatively inexperienced Ainslie side throughout the early 2000s.
Reece’s decorated achievements for Ainslie were duly noted with higher honours – a more than deserved induction into AFL Canberra’s Hall of Fame in 2023, as well as selection for several ACT representatives sides in 1994, 1995 and 1996.
Reece was widely regarded by Ainslie members as one of the best footballers ever to lace up a pair of boots for the club. Induction as a Life Member speaks volume to his incredible on-field achievements that played a major role in Ainslie’s success throughout the 90s.
